Why Signal Art
Signal Art connects art and paintings to music. Every work of art sends a signal; we turn it into sound.
Every work of art sends a signal. A portrait holds a glance it never explains. A painted room keeps a silence nobody broke. A storm on canvas is still moving. That signal is the reason we stop in front of an image, and it is why we are called Signal Art.
Our work is to receive that signal and turn it into sound. We sit with a painting until it gives up a story it never told, then we write an original song for it and make a film for that song. The name is the method: art sends the signal, and Signal Art answers it with music you can watch.
What we make
A great image is never finished. It holds a feeling its maker could not fully name, and we ask what that feeling would sound like if it could sing. That question is where every Signal Art release begins, whether it is a single song drawn from one painting or a two-hour programme built around one character.
Our visual songs start with a single work of art. We stay with it until it gives up a story it never told, then write an original song from that story and make a complete film for the song, scene by scene. Monariza begins with Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa. The Horse Opened Its Mouth begins with Picasso's Guernica. The Clock Won't Forget begins with Dalí's The Persistence of Memory. They are old works, heard for the first time.
How Signal Art is different
The music
Most long playlists collect borrowed tracks from many artists. Every Signal Art song is original, written and produced for the programme it belongs to.
The picture
Typical playlists loop generic stock footage or a single still image. Every Signal Art programme has a film made for that music: a Living Loop, a still-scene film, or a complete visual song film.
The identity
Typical playlists are interchangeable: change the thumbnail and nothing else changes. Signal Art programmes have a character, a world and a story, so each album feels like a place you can return to.
The source
Typical channels start from a trending sound. Signal Art starts from a signal: a painting, a feeling or a world, and writes the music to answer it.
