Deep Bloom Drive 2: emotional melodic house for slow healing
Deep Bloom Drive 2 is two hours of emotional melodic house for the night drive, and it keeps the sound of the first Deep Bloom Drive. Mystic melodic house meets progressive trance at 117 BPM: one falling minor loop that lifts into a warm major chorus, three crisp plucked guitars, a rolling bass locked to the kick, and a groove that never stops. A low cello moves as the singer's melodic twin. One mature male bass-baritone sings every song, very low, dark and close, and the final chorus is the only place he soars.
We wrote new songs about the slow work of healing, each built on one plain physical image. A coat is held open from behind, so you have to reach back blind into the sleeves. Rose canes left unpruned for a year are finally cut back to living wood. A man who knows nothing about bees puts on a dead keeper's veil, knocks three times on each hive and tells them who will not be coming: "Someone has to tell the bees". An old working horse, unharnessed for good, keeps walking its furrows before it can lie down. A rescue dog finally sleeps in the middle of the floor. The bees song names the programme's turn: "Some grief has work to do".
The picture is a cinematic still-scene film. Each song has its own composed still scenes, one for each verse and each distinct chorus, timed to the sung sections and joined by slow crossfades, so the film follows every song as it unfolds.
Put it on for a night drive, a long reflective evening or late-night focus, and let the chorus hold you.
